Mary Kate Miles Art

Hello!

I am a scientific illustrator and graphic designer based in Pooler, Georgia, specializing in creating visually captivating and highly functional illustrations. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Scientific Illustration from the University of Georgia, I blend artistic precision with scientific accuracy to produce compelling visuals.

Since graduating, I have built a career as a medical illustrator and graphic designer, developing detailed presentations and medical legal art for class action lawsuits and multi-district litigation. My expertise spans both traditional mediums and digital platforms, including Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. With over 8 years of experience, I bring a meticulous eye for detail and a passion for merging art with science to every project. Whether working on complex medical illustrations or dynamic graphic designs, I strive to create work that is as informative as it is beautiful.

How Did I Become An Artist?

My journey with art began at a young age. As an elementary school student, I would exchange my drawings for ice cream passes with our principal, a testament to the joy and value art brought to my life. I covered my walls with my artwork, attended numerous art camps at the LaGrange Art Museum, and studied online tutorials to learn the fundamentals of art. Art became a therapeutic outlet for me.  From creating artwork for my dad while he was in hospice to immersing myself in countless hours of sketching during my free time, art has been my companion and my passion. The joy that art brings to me and others continues to inspire my work.

A pivotal moment in my artistic development came when my mom returned to school to pursue a degree in education. I accompanied her to various cultural enrichment events, where I learned that one could indeed live as an artist.

During one of our visits to my dad in the hospital, I encountered a series of paintings by Lamar Dodd, a LaGrange native and UGA alumnus, in a hospital breezeway. His surgical paintings, which reminded me of the chaos of an orchestra, left a lasting impression on me. Later, I learned that he was invited to document the NASA space program in the 1960s. In the late 1970s, he began the Heart Artwork Collection, which was I saw in the hospital.
